Prof. Dr. Peter S. Martyshko is a Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Director of Bulashevich Institute of Geophysics of Ural Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (2004–2015), Professor of Department of Information Technologies and Control Systems, Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies, Ural Federal University, Ekaterinburg, Russia. He is an author of more than 200 scientific papers and several monographs.

In 1993, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. In 2006, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In the period 2004-2015, he was the Director of the Institute of Geophysics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The scientific activity of Petr Sergeevich is related to the theory and methods of solving direct and inverse problems of geophysics (interpretation of geophysical fields). He has obtained a number of fundamental results in solving inverse problems of gravimetry, magnetometry and electrometry: a methodology and computer technologies for separating areas of anomalous density by depth have been developed, successfully applied in the search for oil and gas fields and the study of the deep structure of the Earth, the construction of three-dimensional models of the Earth’s crust and upper mantle; the fundamental possibility of determining the boundary and magnetic susceptibility (conductivity) of an ore body with a joint interpretation of anomalous fields measured at two positions of the primary field source has been shown; The theory and algorithms for interpreting electromagnetic geophysical methods in a three-dimensional version were developed, and examples of solutions to three-dimensional inverse problems of electrical exploration were constructed for the first time (which made it possible to increase the reliability of the interpretation of practical data). The research results were published in scientific articles (109 indexed in Scopus) and 5 monographs (one published abroad).

In 2014, he won a grant from the Russian Science Foundation for laboratories, and in 2020, for research groups with the project “Methods for constructing three-dimensional models of the earth’s crust based on a comprehensive interpretation of geophysical fields using parallel algorithms (using the Ural region as an example)”.

Petr Sergeevich is a member of international scientific communities: the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE), the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), and the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).

Scientific and organizational activities were recognized with state and public awards: State Scientific Scholarship, one of the first Laureates (2001-2002) of the Foundation for the Support of National Science (nomination of outstanding scientists — young doctors of science), awarded the Medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, 2nd degree, the V.V. Fedynsky Medal «For outstanding contribution to theoretical and applied geophysics» (European-Asian Geophysical Society), the Leibniz Medal of the European Academy of Natural Sciences, the Golden Badge of the Trade Union of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
